Laying the Keel of the new Disney Fantasy

Gearing up production at Meyer Werft shipyard, Popenburg Germany, president of Disney cruise line Karl Holz, helped celebrate the keel-laying of the first-of-it's-kind Disney Fantasy.

The maiden voyage of the Disney Dream in Jan 26, 2011, marked a new era of ship-building at Meyer Werft shipyard.

Laying the first block of a cruise ship is a significant milestone in the building process. To mark this occasion, a coin is placed under the keel of the ship for "good luck". Unlike her predecessor, the Disney Dream, the new ship will take the cruise experience to a new dimension with first time attractions giving the ship an identity of her own.

Carrying 4,000 passengers fully loaded, the Dream will make her maiden voyage scheduled for March 31, 2012. Her itinerary will include week-long cruises through the Eastern and Western Caribbean from her home base, Port Canaveral Florida.

Boasting the world's first on-board water coaster, the AquaDuck, Disney Fantasy will have a few undisclosed signature attractions of her own.

Itinerary will offer stops in Costa Maya, Mexico, featuring a wealth of cultural and educational exhibits. Be transported center stage to the heart of an authentic Mayan town where you can taste local Mayan dishes, observe everyday activities, and see a wealth unique historical landmarks.
